Performance with inflatable installations
"CROSSING" is an installation and performance projectthat I developed with 9 - 10 year-old students inParis. The class was divided into groups and each group defined its ownterritory by imagining and creating a defense or separation system withrecyclable materials. In a second step, I copied the shape of theirsculpture into inflatable objects. The children made a performance with theseinflatable sculptures which were constantly appearing anddisappearing. When one of these inflatable sculptures appeared, somechildren would go inside their borders, and the others would wander outside. When one of these inflatable sculptures disappeared, some children would cross theborders while the others would stay within, creating apermanent coming and going. The installation and the performance of theproject "CROSSING" are metaphors for speaking about connections with multipledimensions: social, emotional, spatial, desired connection.
